Secrets To Learn How to Play The Drums - FAST
Whether or not you are just beginning to learn to play the Drums, or have been playing for some time, the desire to get better is always going to be there. Probably one of the most often sought after skill is to learn how to increase your playing speed. For beginners, the fundamentals of drum playing is more important. But as you learn and time goes on - you will be focusing a lot more on efforts to increase your drumming speed.
One key to becoming a faster drummer, of course, is practice, practice, practice ALONG with repetition doing the most basic and simple drum motions. These activities are critical for each and every drummer. Be somewhat patient as it takes time to master the basics . Eventually they become second nature - where it is automatic, without much thinking. Tools, like a metronome or practice pad are useful to help you as you progressively improve your beats per minute. Practicing the basics will also help develop your hand control, endurance, and rhythm.
Setting up the drum set effectively before playing is another very simple tip that generally goes unnoticed. If your Drums are setup incorrectly, as an example, a bit too far from you or positioned too closely to each other or for your body, it could impact your ability to play and reduce your speed. Setup a standard procedure to get everything ready before practicing or playing, that you would do each time. That way, you will develop good habits and have a consistent way to get started every time.
After practicing for a while, you will learn that drum sticks have different weights. Many instructors and web-based drum lessons will advise you to practice some of your routines and basic strokes with heavier sticks from time to time. This will help develop your wrists' strength and control. But how does this aid your speed, you may ask? By practicing with the heavier sticks your muscles will adapt to the weight so when you pick up your regular drum sticks you will notice the difference right away. Playing the drums your regular sticks will become less difficult and more comfy simply because your hands adjust back.
Keep in mind it is also a good idea to take some time warming up. Well conditioned muscles function far better, so before you practice, do some warm-up workouts with your hands. Emphasize exercises for your writs and fingers - this will increase your strenght and flexibility - which all will impact your speed. This really is particularly important if you like to play in the morning. Your body is just waking up from being zonked out and you want to be sure you don't hurt your wrists. However, no matter when you playor practice, some warm-up routines will be helpful to keep from having issues with your wrists. Numerous Internet drum courses have some simple hand workouts and warm-ups that they advise.
If you're a beginner, your priority will need to be mastering the strategies and essentials of playing the drums, and speed will naturally come. If you stick to it and push yourself beyond your frustrations, you will get better and better - eventually, you can be good enough to play in a band. If you're looking for DVD tutorials or online sources for finding out how to play the drums browse our website - www.thebeatgods.com and you will find all kinds of videos, music and places to get whatever you need.

Learning How to Learn $15.8 Learning How To Learn The basics of effective study for 8- to 12-year olds, fully illustrated. Children who read and apply the materials in this book regain their enthusiasm for study and their ability to apply this knowledge in life. Get this book for a child you want to see win at his studies Barriers to Learning" " Overfilled class-sizes, economic disadvantages and "learning disorders" are common. Yet underlying all of this, there are three primary barriers that keep one from successfully studying a subject. Despite all that has been written on the subject of study, these three barriers were never isolated as having such importance in effective education. This is not attention deficit disorder, emotional problems, or stupidity at work. This is the emotional or physical reaction a student of any age will experience when encountering one of these barriers to learning. Students fail to learn because no one has ever taught them how to learn -- how to identify the barriers to learning and how to overcome them. What are the three primary barriers to learning? The answer is found in the Study Technology given in the book Learning How to Learn, central to which is the delineation of these barriers to study. Never before recognized, these yet constitute the primary reasons for educational failures. Study Technology It was into the face of an academic crisis that L. Ron Hubbard developed his educational methods. Drawn from some four decades of experience as an educator, these methods represent the first comprehensive understanding of the actual barriers to effective learning. Mr. Hubbard further developed a precise technology to overcome those barriers, and thus how to learn and apply "any" body of knowledge. In total, his contribution to the field is known as Study Technology and provides the first fully workable approach to teaching students "how" to learn. It offers methods for recognizing and resolving all difficulties in absorbing material, including a previously unacknowledged barrier that ultimately lies at the bottom of all failures to pursue a given course of study. In short, then, this Study Technology helps "anyone "learn "anything" and has proven to achieve uniform, consistent results wherever it has been applied. Because it is based on fundamentals common to everyone, it cuts across economic, cultural or racial lines and can be used by all, regardless of age. Indeed, the three definitive texts on the subject, "The Basic Study Manual, Study Skills for Life" and "Learning How to Learn" essentially differ only in their treatment of the material. The first is designed for teenagers and above, while the second is aimed at younger readers, with the third offering the basics of Study Technology to children between the ages of eight and twelve. The point being, Mr. Hubbard's study techniques have proven as effective in the elementary school as they have in the exec |

How Children Learn to Draw $33.13 PREFACE Some of the recent helpful contributions to the subject of teaching drawing have been in the form of theories as to what ought to be accomplished.0thers have been in the form of descriptions of the devices and methods employed in various places. This book brings both of these point,s of view into close relationship, not only by presenting them together in the same voIume but also by recording the particular classroom experiences which formed the basis for the theory given and which in turn have been modified by that theory. It seemed to us that the concreteness of a detailed description of the experiments and theory of one school would compensate for the necessary limitations of such a treatment. We hope that the reault,s are representatmive enough to justify us in having given to the description of the work of a single institution a name so broad in its significance as the title of this book. Our sincere thanks are due to the instructors in the Elementary School whose cooperation made possible the close relation of drawing with the other subjects, and also to Mr. Harry Orrin Gillet, principal of the Elementnry School, for his concurrent efforts and for his helpful suggestions rgarding the manuscript. The methods of teaching drawing in the Elementary School of the School of Edcation in The University of. Chicago during the past few years have been in the nature of an expelinent to discover how children learn most readily to use drawing as a means of self-expression. Two uses of drawing have been emphasiased first, its use as a means of intellectual expression which differs essentially from verbal language and therefore offers a unique method of analyzing and dealing with subjects and showing them in a new light second, its use as a form of artistic expression, a means of developing artistic appreciation, and an avenue to the sources of enjoyment. Any means that appear ultimately to promote appreciation and ability in self-expression have been given fair trial, however questionable from the traditional artistic standpoint they may appear at first sight. For example, in building up a vocabulary of forms, direct observation has been supplemented by some copying and occasionally even by tracing. As high a class average has been expected in drawing as in any other subject. Methods as systematic as those in other subjects have been employed, and unpromising beginnings, even in the upper grades, have not been regarded as reasons for discouragement. Special talent in art has received the same consideration as does special talent in mathematics or in language. Daily records of each step followed in dealing with various topics have been kept, in order that from time to time the work of the children may be studied and modified in the light of all the details of procedure. This book presents some of these records, selected to show representative series of lessons, accompanied by explanatory notes and illustrations from the work of the children. This |

Drums and Shadows $20.31 This collection of oral folklore from coastal Georgia was assembled during the 1930s as part of a WPA writers' program, under the supervision of Mary Granger. The accounts in this book, framed by colorful descriptions of the rural locales where they were collected, were principally from elderly African-Americans, some of them centarians. Most had been slaves. In some cases they had known first generation slaves who had been born in Africa. This book focuses on a set of beliefs and magical practices (some of which are today known as 'Hoodoo'), including root doctoring, the existence of spirits, talismans, lucky and unlucky acts and omens and more. The interviewer also investigates the use of drums and dancing during celebrations, funeral and baptism rituals, food taboos, and other aspects of folklore and ethnology. This study dispels any lingering doubt that these beliefs are derived directly from Africa--it exhaustively cross-references the narratives with an appendix of quotes from African ethnographers, folklorists and explorers. Do not be put off by the use of phonetic dialect spelling. This is not being used here to belittle the speakers or cast them as ignorant. Rather, this book is scrupulously non-judgmental. This is simply how oral accounts were transcribed before there were portable tape recorders or camcorders. It takes a bit of work, but after a few pages, these potent and long-dead voices come to life. John Bruno Hare, March 23, 2007 |
